A separation chamber can be used to separate the process fluid from the working fluid, ensuring that the two fluids do not mix in the event of an O-ring leak.

Excellent properties of silicon carbide
Silicon carbide material is manufactured by pressureless sintering of submicron silicon carbide powders. The self‑bonding fine grains (<10 µm) formed during sintering enable the resulting silicon carbide ceramics to achieve a true density exceeding 95% of silicon carbide’s theoretical density. With its comprehensive superior properties—high thermal conductivity, exceptional hardness and strength, and broad corrosion resistance—silicon carbide is an ideal material for corrosion‑resistant heat‑exchanging equipment, serving as a superior alternative to conventional heat‑transfer materials such as metals, glass, enamel‑coated glass, graphite, and PTFE.
High hardness, high density, and low porosity
- Silicon carbide exhibits a hardness 50% greater than that of tungsten carbide, and its sintered products achieve a true density exceeding 95% of the theoretical value. Even under extreme temperatures and pressures, it maintains exceptional wear resistance and complete impermeability, thereby permitting media to flow at high velocities. Its superior hardness also ensures that it does not contaminate process fluids in high-purity industrial applications.

Excellent thermal conductivity
- The thermal conductivity of silicon carbide is nearly comparable to that of impregnated graphite, which is commonly used in chemical equipment, and far exceeds that of other materials. Its thermal conductivity is twice that of tantalum alloys, five times that of stainless steel, ten times that of Hastelloy, and fifteen times that of enameled glass.

Excellent thermal shock resistance
- Silicon carbide boasts exceptionally high thermal conductivity and a consistently low coefficient of thermal expansion. By minimizing intrinsic temperature gradients, it exhibits outstanding thermal shock resistance, enabling it to withstand rapid thermal cycling—both heating and cooling—far better than other materials.
Exceptional high-temperature stability
- Silicon carbide can operate under high-temperature conditions that other materials cannot withstand (maximum service temperature: 1,700°C in air and 1,950°C in an inert gas), and it remains dimensionally stable at elevated temperatures.

Low total cost of ownership
- Its overall cost performance surpasses that of graphite and metal heat exchangers, and it offers a distinct advantage—particularly when replacing expensive precious-metal heat exchangers such as tantalum, zirconium, and Hastelloy—which are costly, have long lead times, and exhibit limited service life under conditions involving mixed acids or complex operating environments.

Comparison of Life-Cycle Operating Costs for Silicon Carbide, Graphite, and Metal Heat Exchangers
Outstanding corrosion resistance
- It exhibits exceptionally high resistance to corrosion, oxidation, and impact.
- It is resistant to high concentrations of sulfuric acid, nitric acid, phosphoric acid, mixed acids, strong alkalis, oxidizing agents, and more.
- It is the only ceramic material that can withstand hydrofluoric acid corrosion.
- It boasts an excellent service life.
- It boasts high strength, with each silicon carbide tube having undergone a 10 MPaG hydrostatic pressure test.

Health, Safety, and Environmental Protection
- It does not contaminate the process medium even under highly corrosive operating conditions (under severe corrosion, extreme high‑temperature, and high‑pressure conditions, it still exhibits exceptional wear resistance and impermeability, ensuring material purity and preventing contamination).
- It can meet the stringent standards of the pharmaceutical and food industries.

Frequently Asked Questions
Precautions for Shutting Down a Plate Heat Exchanger
When shutting down the heat exchanger, first slowly close the hot-side inlet valve, then slowly close the cold-side inlet valve, and finally close both the cold- and hot-side outlet valves. After all valves are closed, stop the pump; if necessary, open the drain valve.
Precautions for Starting a Plate Heat Exchanger
Inspect the clamping bolts and tighten them to the specified torque, ensuring even diagonal tightening. Verify that the inlet and outlet valves and the vent valve are in good condition and that all instruments are functioning properly. During startup, vent the system first, then introduce the cold medium before introducing the high‑temperature medium. Gradually open the inlet and outlet valves while carefully controlling the pressure differential between the two sides.
Precautions for Disassembling Plate Heat Exchangers
Before dismantling the plate heat exchanger, the clamping dimensions shall be measured and recorded. L; Loosen the clamping bolts alternately in a diagonal sequence.
Precautions for Storing Plate Heat Exchangers
Plate heat exchangers should be stored in a dry, well-ventilated warehouse, with the ambient temperature not exceeding 45 °C 。
When a plate heat exchanger has been out of service for more than six months, the internal fluid must be completely drained. It is advisable to loosen the clamping bolts in advance to ensure that the gap between the two clamping plates reaches 1.2 times L is recommended; clamp it to L when in use.
Causes of Leakage in Plate Heat Exchangers
1) Gasket aging; 2) System overpressure; 3) Loose clamping bolts causing external leakage; 4) Plate corrosion leading to internal leakage.
